Happy Spring, zany readers!! My sincerest apologies for missing last week’s blog post, finals really kicked my butt.
BUT, we are here now, enjoying a relaxing week off school, and I thought I would share a couple of my favorite skincare and beauty products that I’ve been loving this season.
Let’s dive right in!
Skincare
For those of you who know me personally, you know my skincare journey has been a rollercoaster of emotions. For years (I’m talking like over 10), I have struggled with acne. I tried every regime I could get my hands on, bought into every acne product on the market, spent hundreds of dollars and came up broke, defeated, and more blemished than ever. A couple months ago I found myself so angry at the process, assuming I would never find products that worked with my skin.
Well, turns out, not all acne can be cleared with topical treatments (aka every treatment I had tried for the past 10 years). I found out through a specialist that my acne was a side effect of a hormonal imbalance, which explains why scrubbing my face with acid-filled products only made my skin more irritated.
Making a long story long, I started on a couple medications that even my hormone levels out, while I have also found skincare products that are organic, clean, and that my skin absolutely loves. Here are some of those products.
Burt’s Bees Deep Cleansing Cream
I found this daily cleanser a couple months ago, and I really enjoy washing my face with it every morning and night. It’s gentle on my skin, smells minty fresh, and seems to wash away most of the dirt that builds up throughout the day or night. I bought this face wash at Target, although it is also available on Amazon, as well as other retailers who sell Burts Bees products.
Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Scrub
I love using this face wash whenever I want to use an exfoliator. A lot of the exfoliators I have tried in the past are too harsh for my sensitive skin, but this one in particular does a great job of exfoliating while nourishing and moisturizing, so it leaves your skin feeling fresh and clean without the post-exfoliator burn. Although I linked this product to Ulta, you can also buy it at Target, and probably most grocery stores.
Cocokind Raspberry Vinegar Toner
Y’all, if you have never heard of Cocokind, LOOK THEM UP. This company has my heart. They produce all organic and clean skincare and beauty products that are honestly amazing; Not to mention Cocokind is a female-founded and female-run company, so it’s really just all things good.
This product is a raspberry vinegar toner that I use in the morning and at night after I wash my face. I spray about 3 pumps onto a cotton pad and evenly wipe my face. This product is great for acne-prone skin, as the cold-pressed and fermented raspberries deliver an acetic acid, along with nutrient-rich vinegar that regulates oil production and calms breakouts.
You can purchase all Cocokind products on their website, which I will link in the product titles, as well as a select amount of Wholefood and Target stores across the country.
This is a product I heard a lot about before I decided to purchase. It is a great gentle facial toner, and works well with a couple other Cocokind products that I will share. I bought my Witch Hazel at a local organic grocery store, although it can be purchased on Amazon, which I have linked above.
I didn’t know the importance of moisturizer until I was introduced to Cocokind and they explained it to me. At the time of my skincare self-discovery, I was going through an oily phase in which my face produced a lot of unwanted oils. That being said, I always strayed away from any oil-based skincare products, assuming that they would only add to the problem. Turns out, my skin was actually dry (probably a combination of dry and dehydrated), and the oil that I noticed on my face was my my skin trying to overcompensate for the lack of natural, healthy skin oils.
I began using Cocokind facial oils twice a day everyday (first I used the Golden Elixir, now I use the Facial Repair Oil), and the amount of oil on my face actually subsided greatly. I no longer feel like my face is greasy, but hydrated and healthy. The Facial Repair Oil is really great for evening out skin tones and reducing hyper-pigmentation, which is perfect for my skin as it is in the process of healing from years of hormone-induced acne.
Another moisturizer I love using on my face is organic coconut oil. This is great for colder months in which my skin gets noticeably dryer and needs a moisture pick-me-up. I put it on my face after a shower, or after washing my face in the morning. I personally bought mine at Target, but you can get it at most groceries stores.
Cocokind Turmeric Spot Treatment
This product is honestly amazing. The Cocokind turmeric spot treatments helps fight breakouts, while brightening your skin tone. I put this turmeric on my face when I am breaking out and it helps reduce the size of my acne substantially. This product is packed with turmeric, ginger, and tea tree oil, which tackles inflammation and hyper-pigmentation. Most of the time I’ll wear a layer of the turmeric to sleep when I have bad breakouts (disclaimer: it will stain your pillow case, but it’ll be worth it.), or I wear it under a chlorophyll mask when I’m spending a night in doing homework or watching Netflix.
Speaking of the chlorophyll mask, here it is!! I went through a major chlorophyll phase this past fall/winter and wore a chlorophyll mask literally every night. It was great. The chlorophyll mask detoxes, boosts complexion, and reduces inflammation (and wearing it with the turmeric spot treatment makes a dream team against breakouts).
What I love about this product is that it comes in a powder consistency so 1. It’s reducing the use of water at the supply chain level which = sustainability which = a brighter future on this planet, and 2. you can mix it with pretty much anything you want (yay creativity!). Some of the possible ingredients to mix with the chlorophyll mask that Cocokind lists on their website include water, facial oils, yogurts, and milks (yes, I have tried all of them).
Sooooo, I intended to make this post about all of my skincare AND beauty products that I’m loving this season, but as I glance at my word count, I better save the beauty products for next week.
I hope you enjoyed reading about my favorite skincare products! As always, please note that every single skin type is different (because we are all unique and different and beautiful in our very own ways, duh), so if you try any of these products and you get a different result, don’t be discouraged! Skincare is all about finding what works for your beautiful skin, and that will look different than anyone else.
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions regarding the products I listed or my personal skincare journey!
*None of these products are sponsored, they are all genuinely loved by me.
I haven’t tried any of these products but that spot treatment seems really good! Will definitely keep an eye out for it! X
